Chopra on Eating Disorders

How does one conquer an eating disorder? Deepak Chopra explains that people with eating disorders usually have a poor self-image. They see themselves as unlovable and unattractive. To combat this illusion, he suggests practicing the “mirror technique” where one can look at oneself in the mirror and say “I am beautiful, I love myself, and thank you God for making me exactly how I am”. Booster Seat Saves Life

A booster seat is not a baby seat. That’s the safety message that a Detroit-based rap group is trying to convey to kids between eight and ten years old. Studies show that many children in that age group, known as ‘tweens’ who live in urban areas don’t often use a booster seat, which can help to save their lives. The booster seat raises them to the correct height in a car enabling the proper placement of a seat belt across the child’s chest. Slum Village is attempting to reach that segment through music by letting ‘tweens’ know that using a booster seat is “cool.” They’ve taken the safety message and put it in a hip hop song with the 4-Steps slogan, “sit, pull, cross, click!” Produced for General Motors by Medialink. Drugging kids while traveling?

Drugging kids on flights is a form of terrorism, say some. This Travel Video Alert™, part of the Travel Video PostCard™ series, says that Family travel isn’t what family travel used to be. Parents on airplanes, on flights, on vacations traveling with kids are drugging their kids, drugging children usually with Benadryl to keep them quiet during a flight. Terrorism? Probably not. Drugs and kids, kids and drugs don’t mix, and Benadryl? Benadryl may be a harmless sedative but drugs and kids on planes? Parents are outraged that Benadryl would be given to children to calm them on a family trip, a family vacation. Benadryl may be more or less harmless, but if we freely give kids Benadryl, what drug is next. Should kids fly first class? Should families be in the back of the plane? Why do we have to calm kids with or any drugs? Family travel and taking your kids on a vacation should mean having well behaved children. Or at least kids who can be entertained by books, DVD’s, hugs and other creative ways to fly calmly with kids. Benadryl? Drugging kids? There has to be a better way than drugs and Benadryl. Even pediatricians are not taking a stand. They say giving drugs to kids is up to parents. Really? Should parents use drugs on kids? Sleep aids? Some airline passengers say kids shouldn’t fly at all because they are too much trouble. Not toilet trained! Brought to you by SafetyTV Library. www.safetyissues.com.

Kids Under 4' 9" need Booster Seat

A staggering 80-90% of all children in the U.S. who should be restrained in a booster seat are not. Children who have outgrown their child safety seat, but who are still under 4' 9", are safer sitting in a booster seat, rather than immediately transitioning to an adult safety belt. Developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Safety Administration in partnership with the Ad Council, the goal of the PSA campaign is to educate parents of children who have out-grown their child safety seat that a booster seat is a life-saving transition to an adult safety belt. Is your child's car seat installed properly?

More than 40,000 child passengers under age four are injured or killed in car crashes annually, according to NHTSA, and over 50,000 children between four and eight years old are injured or killed riding in cars annually. Approximately 40 percent of children under the age of eight who die or suffer serious injuries in fatal car crashes are completely unrestrained. “Boost for Safety”, sponsored by the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), developed in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Who the booster seat is for?

It's surprising, but being buckled up with a safety belt is not the safest way for many children to ride in a vehicle. Safety belts are designed for adults, and children under 4' 9" tall should ride with a booster seat. Children prematurely moved to seat belts are 4 times more likely to suffer serious head injuries during a collision than children in child safety or booster seats.

The booster seat message is a crucial one, NHTSA estimates that up to 90% of children in the U.S. who should be using a booster seat are not. The goal of this campaign is to educate parents of children who have outgrown their child safety seat that a booster seat is a life-saving transition to an adult safety belt. Is it safe to swim with Stingrays following the death of Steve Irwin?

"The circumstances surrounding the Steve Irwin accident are very unusual. Steve was in an area of wild Stingray's unfamiliar with human interaction and in very close proximity to Sharks. Sharks are a predator of the Stingray which would have made them extremely anxious and defensive of any type of interference.

"I dived with the Stingray in the Cayman Islands this year, at Stingray City, the Stingray's are only there because people feed them and this is not an area renowned for sharks as the water there is very shallow. They have been accustomed to people feeding and petting them for over 40 years and despite thousands of people visiting every month, there has never been a fatality there due to a Stingray.

"If you are ever fortunate to visit the Cayman Islands I strongly recommend you take a trip to Stingray City the experience is one you will treasure for the rest of your life.

"This video is me having a bloody good time with the Stingray!" Produced by Pgmnorris Channel. Brought to you by SafetyTV Library.
