Boating Safety Tips

Warmer weather means more people enjoying the sun on their boats. However, boating is serious business - and there are precautions you should take to protect yourself, your passengers and your boat. The Coast Guard Auxiliary offers boating courses which teach the rules of the water and how to safely operate your boat, including risks to avoid when on the water. There may be insurance discounts available after completing the training as well. It is also essential to have all necessary safety equipment on board - including flares, a ship-to-shore radio, fire extinguishers and life vests for everyone on board — even your pets. Protecting your boat doesn't stop when you're out of the water. Most boat thefts occur on land - even in front of your home. Take a wheel off of the trailer and use a hitch lock to secure your boat. Also make sure you have insurance so you are covered for theft – as well as bodily injury or property loss that may occur when operating the boat. Produced by Medialink. Teens and Gun Crime

Gun violence poses a serious threat to America's young people. A teenager in this country is more likely to die from a gunshot wound than from all natural causes of death combined. Even though we have made progress in reducing violent crime in the United States, the rates of crimes committed with guns continues to be among the highest in the industrialized world The PSAs encourage youth to think about the repercussions of gun crimes and reminds them that the consequences, death or jail time, just as seriously affect their families.
