Footage of the WINNER of the 2007 Young Farmer Contest, Callum Thomsen running a Peterson Portable Sawmill. On July 6th in Rotorua New Zealand, seven of NZ's top young farmers competed for the coveted title of Young Farmer of the Year and prizes worth over $75,000! Peterson Portable Sawmills donated a Winch Production Frame sawmill to be used in the Forestry module of the Grand Final. There were seven modules in all, including irrigation, sheep shearing and tractor driving. In the forestry section, the finalist had to use an excavator to grapple a log off a logging truck trailer and onto the ground, they then had to put a chain on a chainsaw and cut the log in half. Getting back into the excavator they manoeuvred one half of the log over to the skids in place under the 27hp Kohler Peterson WPF and set to work milling the log. These guys only had a few minutes training and were taught basic safety aspects of the mill before they had to get in there and operate it. Being used to machinery and equipment, the seven finalists had no problems running the mill, which just goes to show how easy Peterson mills are to use. S-LEC SSF (Sound and Solar Film) from Sekisui Chemical provides outstanding sound insulation. It also controls vibration, reducing the 100-500 Hz frequencies from the engine by two-thirds compared with conventional interlayer films.

S-LEC SSF, created using Sekisui's unique multilayer technology, contains a plastic layer, which is highly sound-insulating, between the polyvinyl butyral (PVB) layers.

S-LEC SSF effectively reduces penetration by heat radiation in the mid-infrared range. Compared with ordinary windshield glass, it reduces the temperature of the steering wheel, which in summer sometimes gets too hot to touch, by about 10 degrees Celsius.

Ordinary heat-reflecting glass also reflects radio waves, obstructing mobile phone communication. By contrast, S-LEC SSF cuts heat radiation without obstructing radio waves.

Serious and sometimes fatal patient injuries associated with magnetic resonance procedures are an ongoing safety concern. These issues can include burns from electrodes and cables during MRI exams, injuries in patients who have implanted neurological stimulators, burns in patients wearing transdermal patches, and about metallic objects brought into the MR unit that have flown across the room and killed people. MR-associated accidents, many life-threatening or fatal, are still occurring, and this has caused continued concern in the radiology community. In order to help reduce the risk, the American College of Radiology (ACR) has issued a comprehensive update to its 2004 white paper on MR safety, called the ACR Guidance Document for Safe MR Practices. This document covers every aspect of MR safety, from the design of the MR suite and the qualifications of personnel to screening patients and what to do in an emergency. Personnel who work in or near a magnetic resonance facility should have and read this document. But it also contains information that may be useful for non-radiology personnel who prepare patients for MR procedures -- for example, on managing the potential risks of aneurysm clips, pacemakers, dermal drug delivery patches and gadolinium-based contrast agents.
